During my years of making musical instruments, I also began to study pickups, starting with the most famous ones, the ones that have made history. I was thus able to discover that so much has been done over the years, but also that the basic recipe is the same as always.
Created with passion and determination.
Heartened by this realization and intrigued by the possibilities that were open to me, in my own small way I tried to create what made sense to me, Alessandro.
I began by building my first bass pickups, starting right from the classic Precision® and Jazz® Bass pickups. I continued my search numbers in hand, studying, testing, often getting a different result than I expected.
Like Christopher Columbus, I was aiming for the Indies and arriving in America.
All this excitement pushed me further in my research, which produced results that were more and more in line with my ideas. Because what I wanted and want is to also give my instruments a specific voice, so that they face the world with the sound designed specifically for them, making them even more unique.
BNJ pickups are all hand-wound, there is no industrialized production process. I decide how they will sound based on the materials I choose, my calculations and my experience. I also believe that not all pickups will fit an instrument, there are timbral characteristics to be respected.
By collaborating with Marco Viola of MOV Guitars, a colleague and above all a friend for many years, I was able to arrive at a product that had technical characteristics that satisfied both of us, both from a construction point of view and from a sound point of view.
It was from this experience of collaboration that I decided in 2022 to put my pickups on the market.
